Migration Policy Institute
The Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank dedicated to the study of U.S. and international migration policies, seeks a motivated and energetic Communications Coordinator to manage the Institute’s contacts database; assist in the design and layout of MPI publications, and manage their printing, mailout, and inventory; take photographs; record and edit multimedia content; assist in social media campaigns and website updates; and perform other Communications activities, including event support, preparation of marketing materials, and monitoring of MPI public email.
- Bachelor's degree with 2 years experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, InDesign, Drupal, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, HTML, and Adobe Acrobat; design experience and constituent relationship management database experience strongly preferred
- Excellent writing, editing, speaking, and interpersonal skills; knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style a plus
- Creative, detail-oriented self-starter
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, and complete work independently and in a timely manner
- Willingness to learn new software and technical skills such as desktop publishing programs, database and contacts management programs, audio and video recording
- Social media proficiency
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize and maintain MPI’s constituent relationship management database (Salsa)—adding contacts to mailing lists, cleaning up outdated contacts, performing data backups, and working with MPI’s CRM vendor to ensure smooth functioning of the database, which MPI uses to mail out more than 5 million e-mails and press releases annually. Knowledge of HTML code preferred to create templates and drop press releases and other mailings into templates in the CRM.
- Layout MPI reports (InDesign) and do some cover design and design of marketing materials.
- Manage in-house printing of saddle-stitch reports and other documents, with responsibility for operating top-flight printer and overseeing report inventory and mailouts.
- Photography at public events, staff portraits, etc.
- Process bookstore sales and permissions requests.
- Assist in videorecording select MPI events and interviews, edit the video, and post online to MPI’s web and social media sites.
- Compile mailing lists and merges for events and program marketing.
- Assist with event setup and cleanup.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

The Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank dedicated to the study of national and international migration policies, is seeking an exceptional Senior Policy Analyst to lead the International Program’s research on economic and labor market issues. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills and a sound understanding of labor economics, the role of public policy in shaping labor market institutions, immigration, and immigration systems. Salary and title will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
- Design and manage policy research projects and ensure rigor and quality in all research products for MPI’s International Program.
- Work with MPI colleagues and external collaborators to conduct original, innovative research and write reports, policy briefs, and articles on immigration policies in North America, Europe, and Asia.
- Represent MPI and promote its research in the media and public and private settings.
- Work with senior staff to identify funding opportunities, develop appropriate research methodologies for new projects, and produce funding proposals.
- Supervise other MPI analysts on specific research projects.
- PhD in public policy, labor economics, or a closely related field. Candidates with Master’s degrees and at least five years of highly relevant experience will also be considered.
- Excellent understanding of labor economics, including the role and impact of regulations, supply and demand for labor, determinants of pay and productivity, the impacts of immigration on the labor market, and human capital development for immigrants and disadvantaged groups in high-income countries other than the United States.
- Sound knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies required for designing and implementing public policy research projects.
- Ability to break down, analyze, and clearly communicate policy questions for a nontechnical audience, and ability to visualize, present, and explain data effectively.
- Proven writing and editing skills.
- Familiarity with the immigration policies of major immigrant-receiving countries other than the United States, including knowledge of current immigration trends, debates, and policies; work-permit and visa policies in immigrant-destination countries; and the economic and labor market dimensions of immigrant integration policy.
- Experience conducting original analysis using statistical programming software (particularly household survey data and administrative datasets).
- Substantial publications record, especially in relevant policy fields, and standing in the research and public policy worlds.
- Experience with public speaking and working with the media.

The Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank dedicated to the study of national and international migration policies, seeks an exceptional, detail-oriented, deadline-sensitive individual to edit the Institute’s reports and books, and manage the publications process from editing through production. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in content, organizational, and copy editing of substantive research and public policy publications, as well as fact-checking, and the ability to manage the publications process through layout on to production. The Editor/Publications Manager will be responsible for content, organizational, and copy editing, as well as fact-checking the majority of MPI publications, working with MPI program and communications staff and commissioned authors, as well as external editors as necessary. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
An exceptional candidate with professional experience in content, organizational, and copy editing in a public policy or think tank/research organization setting who has a bachelor’s or advanced degree in English, journalism, communications, public policy, or comparable discipline. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong aptitude to bring improvements to organization, flow, and clarity of manuscripts and will have:
- 5-7 years hands-on editing experience in think tank, journalism, policy, or similar environment
- Proven excellent English editing, writing, and rewriting skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel in particular)
- Ability to interact with coworkers, external researchers, and others in a professional, collegial manner
- Command of the Chicago Manual of Style
- Master’s in English, journalism, communications, public policy, or related discipline
- International migration knowledge highly valued, as is broad familiarity with related global issues, including development, labor market and (informed reader) economic policies, labor mobility, international organizations, etc.
- Experience working with authors who are non-native English speakers
