1. The data in this figure refer to new asylum applications and typically do not include repeat/review/appeal applications.
2. Prior to 2003 data for the United Kingdom refer to number of cases, and not persons.
3. Data for the United States for 2004-2007 is a combination of US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) affirmative applications and Department of Justice' Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) defensive applications (USCIS=number of cases; EOIR=number of persons).
4. From 2003 on, data for France include unaccompanied minors.
